True love (Message of Light)
From the Gospel of Matthew 5:46-48:
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
One of the things we learned growing up is that we are capable of expressing feelings and desires. In other words, our being is able to emit and receive vibrations of love… Obviously, this is not surprising since we are beings created in the image and likeness of God’s Love! Nevertheless, our experiences and life circumstances lead us to forget who we are… and to trade our wonderful soul for fleeting worldly gains. Thus, the ego within us often takes over, directing our lives and promising us wonders as long as we ignore this magnificent feeling that springs from our deep essence… This realization of our tendency to oscillate between heart and reason for worldly profits was so striking that Christ affirmed: « For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world but forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? » (Mark 8:36-37).
Everything that happens in our existential reality is created by the thoughts of our heart. These energies that we emit, sometimes consciously and many times unconsciously, shape our lives and reveal, at the same time, who we are and what we want to be. This confirms the affirmation from the book of Proverbs (23:7): « For as he thinks within himself, so he is. » This means that our deepest desires are intrinsically linked to the quality of our love. « Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it, » affirms the wisdom of holy scriptures (Proverbs 4:23). But you, what do you desire deep down? What would bring you the most pleasure in this world?
Most people on this earth desire only one thing: pleasantness in every dimension of their being. For the body, it’s health and pleasure; for the mind, it’s joy and peace; for the soul, it’s love and compassion. The greatest desire of our soul is therefore love… but not just any kind! True love. Real love. The great love that transcends all things temporal! Unconditional love.
We are called today to meditate on our love. With every thought, every word or action, what intention do we have? Do we think we should do something because we owe it (a return of favor for a service we benefited from in the past), or do we act because it aligns with who we want to be and therefore brings us joy? « When love expects something in return, it is rather an illusion, » says Christ, who invites us to follow his example in order to calibrate our love! To love is to simply love. Without reason. Just love. That’s what you are called to! Will you be able to train your mind to reach this magnificent level of consciousness?
Good meditation.
