Knowing what motivates you (Message of Light)
From the Gospel of John 6:56-57, 60-64:
Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.
When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this ? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.”
What are you committed to? This is the question that the Lord poses to us today. When God’s Spirit spoke through Christ saying: « Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life » (John 6:54), the disciples did not understand what he meant… Was he giving his physical flesh to eat? But faced with scandal and disappointment from many people, Christ clarified his idea: « The Spirit gives life;the flesh counts for nothing. » This definitively leads us into understanding the mystery behind these words: a subtle invitation to choose which kind of life we want to lead! Are we more inclined to follow our own mental schemas or refer ourselves back to the living Word?
What motivates you in your life? When, every morning, you get up to go out into the world and conduct experiments, what do you base your thoughts on? The nourishment of the flesh (everything that feeds your ego, the worship of appearance, material possessions…) or that of the soul (joy, peace, tranquility, compassion, love)? God does not judge any of our choices. However, He enlightens us about their content and consequences. In everything, man must choose. Each decision reflects the level of consciousness of the one who makes it and thus constitutes his own truth. God accepts it even if He observes that this choice may not be the wisest considering the individual’s current context… Obviously, not all choices are equal.
But what are you committed to? Take a few minutes to imagine yourself facing such an interrogation and try to answer honestly in your heart without judgment. Are you committed to your mind when it attaches itself to matter (ego) or when it submits to the desires of your soul (deep essence)? In other words, do you prefer external things in this world or internal things of the soul? This deserves deep meditation because there is an order in this created universe. Just as spirituality generates materiality, so internal things govern external reality. The sayings « First clean inside both cup and dish so that outside they may become clean too » (Matthew 23:25) or « Seek first for God’s kingdom and His righteousness; then all these other things will also be given unto thee. » (Matthew 6:33), are treasures from His Word that we must engrave in our minds and which should guide every thought, word action ,and sensation!
But beyond everything, let us be reassured. Everything is a matter of level of consciousness, that is to say, where each person is in their spiritual evolution. Our God is patient. His unconditional love given to humanity is proof of his infinite and eternal mercy. Therefore, he never judges us. So no matter your choice, God loves you. Like a Father watching his child play, he observes you making choices in this earthly journey. He knows that the outcome is guaranteed: no matter how long it takes, you will eventually return to him, you will eventually find the voice of reason and the path of light.
Good meditation.
